Becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

The following is required to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN):

  • Minimum completion of a Master’s degree granted by a United States (U.S.) regionally accredited college or university or foreign equivalent and ACEND-accredited coursework requirements.Completion of at least 1,000 hours of supervised experiential learning.
  • For the NutraCo-Graceland University Partnership, the didactic and supervised experiential learning are coordinated and completed together. Our program does not require an external internship, graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), or a verification statement from the DPD Program Director. See the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) 2024 Graduate Degree Requirements for more information. 
  • Signed original Verification Statement from the Future Education Model Graduate Program Director. 
  • Successful completion of the national credentialing exam through the CDR. Refer to the CDR’s website for more information regarding the RDN credentialing examination.
  • Obtain state licensure or certification if applicable in your state. Information regarding specific state licensure requirements is available on the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics website (login required) or the CDR’s website.
